FREQUENCY OF SELF MEDICATION AMONG PATIENTS PRESENTING WITH COMMON INFECTIOUS DISEASES AT KHYBER TEACHING HOSPITAL PESHAWAR, KPK, PAKISTAN

Objective: To determine the frequency of self medications among patients infectious diseases at Khyber teaching hospital Peshawar and to type medicines most commonly used for in diseases. Materials Methods: It was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted from 1st Dec 2018 31st July 2019. A consecutive non probability sampling 310 people taken both inpatient outpatient departments Teaching Hospital, Peshawar. Results: Of subjects included research 161 were female while 149 male. The prevalence self-medication found be 65.79%. Commonly antibiotics (28.49%), antipyretics (24.58%) analgesics (10.06%). common (46.04%) reason self-medicating previous use that drug choice (39.11%) based on doctor prescription. Conclusion: Prevalence high educated population despite majority being aware its harmful effects., addition every stake holder health set up needs play part curbing this practice.
